How to Dress Like a DC Mayoral Candidate (…but better): Muriel Bowser

Well Washingtonians we are officially in the homestretch of the DC Mayor’s race. With exactly two weeks to go until Election Day, let’s table the policy debates and talk about something fun…FASHION. In my opinion, all three of the candidate could benefit from the talents of a stylist.

Today, I’m sharing my ideal outfit for Muriel Bowser, the Democratic candidate. Her wardrobe has had many highs and lows during her campaign, kudos to her for at least attempting to accessorize, but if I have to see one more picture featuring her string of delicate pearls…I’m going scream. In an ideal world, where DC residents actually dress like they live in one of the coolest cities in the United States, this is what I would like to see Muriel Bowser wear.

Ms. Bowser’s campaign color is green, so let’s run with it. This Veronica Beard blouse is both professional and sassy.

In addition to being stylish, this Old Navy Moto Jacket is also affordable. So anyone who complains that the candidate spent too much money on this fabulous outfit can eat crow!

motoNow the real Muriel would probably pair this top and jacket with pants….not my pretend stylish Muriel! We’re going with a leather midi skirt, like the ones previously featured here.

imageTime for shoes! I think these are to die for, obviously not canvasing friendly….

Fall Trend: (Faux) Leather Midi Skirts

Provided you have not lived under a rock this October, you may have noticed that leather is everywhere. It’s on sweaters, our boucle jackets and now it’s making its way to our skirts. The leather midi skirt is the new must have for fall and I wager it will continue to stay on trend for winter as well. Thanks to the animals rights and vegan movements, we are seeing a lot of pleather (faux leather) at the stores and on the runways. Best part? It’s usually cheaper! My one morsel of advice is to choose a length that will suit your height. At 5’3 a long midi skirt on me could make me look like a Duggar, so I will choose one that appears to fall at the knees of the 5’10 model.

Ebay High Fashion Find: Carolina Herrera Evening Gown

I tend to like classic styles, so for me, Carolina Herrera is the QUEEN. For most my age they bow down to Beyoncé, I bow down to Carolina. For all those size 6 ladies out there with some cash this STUNNING and TIMELESS gown could currently be yours for under $1000. Frankly, if I had the cash and was a size 6, I’d wear this dress on my couch and watch the other queen in white…Olivia Pope.

In Love with Colorblocking!

I have totally embraced the Colorblock-ing trend. Here are some of my favorites I’ve seen. Some are even on sale. This Lexi Colorblock Leather Satchel from Aimee Kestenberg is 48% off.

My my favorite color is pink, and I’m a sucker for a pink and grey combo. This Eliza J sweater dress is a great addition to your fall wardrobe. For $98 it does not break the bank and can be worn anywhere. There is also a plus size version, just be mindful of the horizontal stripes, may not flatter all figures.

Lastly this Coffee Shop mixed media coat is perfect for weekend errands and a trip to the pumpkin patch.
